| NK9G | Rick McGaver | <20 Deg F | Single Op Field | 98 | 41 | 0 | 192864 | Between Skeeter Hunt and FYBO, my two favorites. Is FYBO Dying, sure looks like it. In 90's, 00's 80-90 FYBO Q's was normal now a total of 15 FYBO! The ability to work others makes it worth while. 9 DX, VTQP, BCQP & MNQP made the day go by. Started setup at 7AM @ 13F, by 8AM 15F but I was in cargo trailer and I thought for sure I'd be sick even out of the wind. Finally called it quits at 4:15 PM.
| N5GW | Gene | 20-29 Deg F | Single Op Field | 44 | 33 | 100 | 116260 | I throttled my KX3 down to 900mW to a doublet at 50'. Bands were in good shape. It was cold in the AM (27F) but warmed up to 62 and sunny by afn here in MS. That was nice but detracted from the theme. I was amazed at the number of POTA and SOTA in Feb.! It was another fun outing in winter!

| KC3OLZ | Kody Beer | <20 Deg F | Single Op Field | 107 | 42 | 0 | 107856 | It was challenging for QRP today with very busy bands! I dusted off the KX2 & went out and activated POTA at a park near my house. It was 18 degrees! I barely got 20 contacts with my 17' vertical. Went home for lunch and decided I wasn't done yet. Went back out to the park and deployed a proper antenna. 66ft EFHW as a sloper from a 40ft spiderbeam. Worked great. 5W SSB for ~3.5hrs
| WD8RIF | Eric McFadden | 20-29 Deg F | Single Op Field | 46 | 26 | 0 | 47840 | I combined FYBO with a POTA activation of Strouds Run State Park. I was hoping the temperature wouldn't have risen above 20F before FYBO started but the lowest temp-at-the-key I recorded was 24F. After my first seventeen QSOs made in the cold outdoors, I moved into the relative warmth of my car to finish out my operation.
| VA3WBK | Joel Brisson | <20 Deg F | Single Op Field | 30 | 23 | 0 | 33120 | Combined FYBO and POTA, where I could be away from noisy cities, to give me a better success. As it was -20c at the warmest, I was able to get 2h of operation with my (tr)uSDX and a hombrew wire vertical antenna. Loved the challenge, had a blast, would do it again and would recommend!
| W3QP | tim poth | <20 Deg F | Single Op Field | 25 | 20 | 0 | 24000 | My first FYBO and a SOTA outing for me. Had a lot of fun!
| WB3GCK | Craig LaBarge | 50-64 Deg | Single Op Field | 31 | 22 | 0 | 10912 | I did a POTA activation from K-1414 here in southeastern PA. Although the outside temperature was in the 20s F, the sun coming through the windshield heated up the inside of my truck into the 50s F. At one point, I had to roll the windows down a bit.
Always a fun event. | ||
| N7KOM | Tim Sherry | 40-49 Deg F | Single Op Field | 42 | 16 | 0 | 8064 | For FYBO I combined a SOTA activation of Lava Butte (W7O/CE-188) which also happens to be POTA park K-4390. W7MTB set up on the top deck of the fire lookout and I set up below. We managed to not interfere with each other too much and both ran our portable batteries out during the activation. Temps were a modest 43F, warm compared to the previous week in Bend, OR.
| WO6JO | Joe | 50-64 Deg | Single Op Field | 42 | 22 | 0 | 7392 | Had fun combining FYBO+SOTA activation. Pretty warm on the small hill here in San Diego but still a lot of fun. Only called CQ FYBO for a short time with no results. Most contacts were SOTA, and I was happy to find a couple of FYBO CQs to respond to.
| AA6XA | Jeff | 40-49 Deg F | Single Op Field | 27 | 11 | 0 | 7128 | Did two SOTA summits (North and South Chalone) in Pinnacles NP, for a SOTA/POTA dual activation. Much colder than I was expecting, especially with the wind. But on the plus side, I did make it back to the car before the forecasted rain.
| WA5BDU | Nick Kennedy | 30-39 Deg F | Single Op Field | 24 | 11 | 0 | 4224 | I set up on my back deck because the sidewalk down to my usual spot was iced over. Used the KX3 and EFHW on a 31' Jackite pole. Conditions were fair. Nice to work few on 15 and even 10. We need more players! Most of my QSOs were MNQP and BCQP and a couple VQP. 72, Nick - WA5BDU
